The village of Vacqueyras

Bathed in sunshine all year round, Vacqueyras is typical of these Provençal villages with their unique atmosphere. Well situated, the village is surrounded by the cities of Orange, Carpentras and Vaison la Romaine, it is a mostly agricultural village. A land full of authenticity, also with its historical heritage which includes many ancient churches, a castle and fountains. Another local celebrity, Raimbaut de Vacqueyras, who was one of the greatest troubadours in Provence, has his statue in the village. Located at the top of a hill, Vacqueyras is built around its church and has a circular shape. The village has nothing to envy to the most beautiful villages of Provence and is an essential stopover during your stay in the South of France.

If you are a wine lover, this name cannot be ignored. The development of vine growing in the Rhône Valley was introduced by the Romans and is now famous in this small Provençal village. There is a Roman villa in Vacqueyras, but the first evidence of vine cultivation dates back to the Middle Ages. Even today, wine is still a major attraction and helps to attract visitors from all over the world.

Tasting sessions

As tradition requires, don't forget to stop for a wine tasting. Certainly, it was only in 1990 that the Vacceyras winegrowers obtained the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, but the Vacceyras wines have always been famous.

It is possible to taste it for free at the cooperative cellar "la Vigneronne". In July, Vacqueyras celebrates the Wine Festival for 2 days. It would be a shame to miss it if you visit Provence at that time! You can also stay there and take a holiday rental to visit the surroundings. Hotel, holiday residence, apartment hotel or why rent a holiday home with a swimming pool!

In short, it would be a pity not to go to Vacqueyras during your holidays in Provence.
